Northwest Missouri State pushed No. 1 Washburn to the brink Wednesday night, but couldn't complete the upset in an 80-69 loss to the Ichabods.

The Bearcats (4-14, 2-7 MIAA) jumped in front on a pair of three-pointers by Luke Moustakas to begin the game, and the Ichabods didn't hold their first lead until the 11:06 mark in the first half.

The teams traded leads eight times throughout the game, including the end of the opening half when Emorie Knox launched a go-ahead three-pointer to give the Bearcats a 40-37 advantage.

The see-saw battle continued through the second half. Marcus Glock hit a three to put Northwest in front 61-60 with 8:17 to play. Washburn pushed back in front when Moustakas hit a shot from beyond-the-arc to bring Northwest back within three. The Ichabod defense locked Northwest down the rest of the game and finished on an 8-0 run.

Moustakas posted a game-high 21 points. Knox went for 17, while Glock finished with 15 points.

Northwest is back home Saturday at 3:40pm against Central Missouri. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 3:10pm.
