Northwest Missouri State made a run in the final minutes of the game, but the comeback bid fell short in a 75-70 loss to Rogers State.
The Bearcats (4-18, 2-11 MIAA) trailed 68-51 with 3:09 remaining, but they weren't about to go quietly. Junior guard Ja'vion Byers sparked the team as they scored 13 straight points to cut the deficit to four with 1:11 to play. Byers accounted for 11 of the 13 points during the streak with three buckets and two assists.
Despite struggling at the free throw line for much of the game, Rogers State made five of its final six free throw attempts to stay afloat and win the game.
The Hillcats finished 15-29 at the free throw line, while the Bearcats went 9-19.
Luke Moustakas led the Northwest scoring attack with 15 points. He also grabbed 10 rebounds.
Byers put up 14 points off the bench.
Marcus Glock finished with 13 points, and Padraig Gallagher matched a career-high with 12 points.
Northwest returns home Thursday to face Missouri Southern at 7:30pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 begins at 7pm.
