This week's Bearcat Coaches Show concludes a strong season for Northwest soccer, highlights the final regular season weekend for football and volleyball, cross country at regionals, and classics in St. Joseph for Bearcat basketball.
On the hardwood, Northwest women's basketball picked up one of the biggest regular season wins in program history knocking off No. 1 Minnesota State. It marks the first victory over the top-ranked team in the country for the team. Senior guard Molly Hartnett joined the show to discuss the 3-1 start and the challenges ahead of the team.
Bearcat soccer's season came to a close in the quarterfinal round of the MIAA Tournament. Northwest fell to Central Missouri 3-2 to finish the fall with a 7-6-6 record –the team's fourth straight winning season. Head coach Marc Gordon, junior Moira Franck and sophomore Ekaterina Theoharidis sat down with John Coffey to wrap up the 2024 campaign.
Only one weekend remains in the MIAA volleyball regular season, and Northwest is entering into it fresh off of back-to-back wins. The Bearcats handled Missouri Southern and Central Missouri. Next up is a battle against No. 4 Nebraska Kearney and Fort Hays State. Head coach Amy Woerth and sophomore Gabrielle Gartner highlight the changes that led to the strong start to the current four-match homestand.
The Northwest men's basketball season opened over the weekend in the Hillyard Tip-Off Classic with a pair of tough losses to Augustana and Wayne State. This week the Bearcats visit Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City for matchups against Chadron State and UC Colorado Springs. Head coach Matt Keeley and senior Spencer Schomers discussed the lessons from the opening games and the upcoming battles Thursday and Friday.
The Northwest men's cross country team clinched a spot in the NCAA Championships with a runner-up finish at regionals over the weekend in Joplin. Next up is a trip to Sacramento, CA for a race November 23 againt the best in the country. Coach Wick Cunningham and junior Nate Mueller talked about the strong effort and the team still eying the ultimate prize later this month.
Northwest football caps the regular season at home against Pittsburg State. The Bearcats took down one rival last weekend with a win over Missouri Western in St. Joseph, and they can play spoiler with the Gorillas in town Saturday. Freshman safety Holden Zigmant joined the show to look ahead to the matchup.
