This week's Bearcat Coaches Show looked ahead to the MIAA Volleyball Tournament and NCAA Cross Country National Championships, plus games away from home for Northwest basketball this weekend.
Northwest Missouri State volleyball enters the MIAA Tournament as the No. 5 seed, and will face No. 4 seed Washburn in the quarterfinal round Thursday. Bearcat head coach Amy Woerth says her team is getting ready for their opponent, but also preparing mentally as they head into phase three of the season. Woerth is joined by senior Payton Kirchhoefer on this week's show.
Bearcat men's cross country returns to the NCAA National Championship meet with experience on its side. Grant Bradley is a fifth year runner having the best season of his career, and is joined by juniors Nate Mueller and Drew Atkins who each ran at the national meet last fall. Bradley and coach Wick Cunningham discussed this weekend's race in Sacramento, CA, and the business trip that awaits them.
Northwest men's basketball earned its first win of the season last weekend over Chadron State, and this week they will meet a pair of unbeatens from the NSIC – Southwest Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. Head coach Matt Keeley and senior Luke Moustakas discussed the early season progression for the Bearcats.
Northwest women's basketball is off to a 5-1 start and continue to create problems defensively. The Bearcats are giving up just 54 points per game. Saturday they face William Jewell who is fresh off a 16-point loss to Newman. Bearcat senior Kendall Clatt and junior Emree Zars joined the show to highlight the successes and what's coming for the team.
