This week's Bearcat Coaches Show highlighted fall sports barreling toward the postseason, while basketball got underway last weekend.
Northwest football came back refreshed from a bye week and took down Northeastern State Saturday. Next up is a battle with rival Missouri Western. Junior running back and returner Dominic Myers spoke with John Coffey about the win, his journey to Maryville, and this week's matchup.
The NCAA Cross Country Central Region meet is this weekend in Joplin. The Bearcats put up great performances all around in the MIAA Championships at the end of October, and are set to make a push toward the NCAA National Championships. Coach Wick Cunningham, sophomore Bree Mauro and junior Tyler Blay joined the show to talk about their strategy for the region meet.
The soccer regular season came to a close with losses to No. 20 Washburn and Emporia State, but the Bearcats still clinched a berth in the MIAA Tournament. The team will compete with Central Missouri Sunday in the quarterfinal round. Head coach Marc Gordon, senior Yesenia Arnau and junior Abi Lawrence highlighted the opportunity that awaits them.
Bearcat volleyball returns home this weekend for the first time since October 12. Northwest has dropped three straight, but used the time off after last Wednesday's match to get back to work for the final four matches of the regular season. Assistant coach Nick Sepulveda and junior Kasidy Mohwinkle discussed the intense practices and the refocused team for the stretch run.
Northwest men's basketball hits the hardwood for the season opener Friday in St. Joseph against Augustana. Head coach Matt Keeley and a new look roster hope to start the 2024-25 campaign on a high note. Keeley and senior Emorie Knox joined the show to discuss the team coming together through practice and the challenge ahead.
The Bearcat women began the season with a bang on Saturday. Northwest took down No. 5 Ashland in St. Joseph. Sitting at 1-1, they're back at the Civic Arena in St. Joe this weekend to face MSU Moorhead and No. 1 Minnesota State. Peyton and Lindsey Kelderman talk about the team success in the opener and the chance to face the best in the country.
