Northwest put a cap September with a strong finish as an athletic department, now turns its attention to October and the thick of the MIAA schedule for the majority of the fall sports teams. We covered it all on this week's Bearcat Coaches Show.
Bearcat football held on for a 14-9 win in a slugfest with Emporia State on Saturday to pick up their third straight win. Northwest defensive lineman Clayton Power joined the show to discuss the dominant defensive effort and an upcoming matchup with Washburn.
The MIAA cross country championships are still a few weeks out, but the Bearcats will get a preview of the conference meet this weekend. Northwest will run in the Griffon Invite in St. Joseph on the same course that will host the MIAA Championships. Coach Wick Cunningham, redshirt freshman Olivia Bakker and sophomore Grayson Tapps say down to discuss the opportunity to get on the St. Joseph course this Saturday.
Bearcat volleyball opened the MIAA slate with a 1-1 weekend after splitting matches against No. 24 Washburn and Emporia State. Head coach Amy Woerth and senior Abby Brunssen highlight the weekend, look ahead to this week's matchups with Fort Hays and No. 3 Nebraska Kearney, and Brunssen's success on the court.
Northwest golf took second in the SWMSU Mustang Invitational in Marshall, MN, and will head to Edmond, OK for the Grace Shin Invitational next week. Head coach Lathan Croy and freshman Lauren Briggs talked with us about the success around the program and expectations for next week.
Bearcat tennis wrapped up the fall season over the last two weekends with the ITA Regional Tournaments. Head coach Mark Rosewell and junior Marielena Muench sat down with John Coffey to highlight the fall season.
