Sept. 3, 2024Coaches Show | Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country, Tennis
Northwest Missouri State football kicked off the 2024 schedule last Thursday. This week, the rest of the fall sports teams get their chance to begin the season, and we caught up with them on the KXCV-KRNW Bearcat Coaches Show, live from Pizza Ranch.
Bearcat volleyball returns seven seniors, but also features a new assistant coach in Nick Sepulveda. A pair of those seniors, Olivia Dir and Avery Kemp, joined Sepulveda on the show as they get set for the Augustana Tournament in Sioux Falls, SD.
Northwest soccer, picked fourth in the MIAA preseason rankings, will open the fall season this weekend with matches against Southern Nazarene in Bethany, OK, then up to Topeka, KS to face UMSL before the team's home opener next week against Minnesota State. Head coach Marc Gordon, defender Emily Yakle and midfielder Ximena Arnau discussed the upcoming games on this week's program.
Bearcat cross country will make the trek to Omaha, NE. for the Platte River Rumble for the first time since 2022. Coach Wick Cunningham, sophomore Bree Mauro and junior Nate Mueller spoke about the opportunities ahead for both the men's and women's teams.
Senior captain Jake Winslow and the Northwest football team look for a bounce back this week with the first road trip of the season against Nebraska Kearney.
Northwest head tennis coach Mark Rosewell and sophomore Dominik Wijntjes also sat down with John Coffey on this week's show to discuss the Leavenworth Labor Day Tournament and the season-opening Augusta Tournament this weekend in Sioux Falls, SD.
